Application of Microfluidic Systems for Neural Studies
Whereas the axons of the peripheral nervous system (PNS) spontaneously regenerate after an injury, the occurring regeneration is rarely successful because axons are usually directed by inappropriate cues. Therefore, finding successful ways to guide neurite outgrowth, in vitro, is essential for neurogenesis. Microfluidic systems reflect more appropriately the in vivo environment of cells in tissues such as the normal fluid flow within the body, consistent nutrient delivery, effective waste removal, and mechanical stimulation due to fluid shear forces. At the same time, it has been well reported that topography affects neuronal outgrowth, orientation, and differentiation.

Application of Mixed Potential Theory to Leaching
Leaching is a central unit operation in the hydrometallurgical processing of minerals, which often occurs by means of electrochemical reactions. Application of mixed potential theory to explain the kinetics of oxidative and reductive leaching processes is a useful concept in explaining observed results. Native metals, selected oxides, and most base metal sulfides are electron-conducting phases. For these minerals, leaching may take place by normal corrosion, passivation or galvanic couple mechanisms, which provide individual electrode kinetics enabling the calculation of mixed potentials and overall reaction kinetics.

Application of MXenes Material for Sensors
MXenes are a class of 2D early transition nitride, metal carbides, and carbonitrides that are created by the group that selectively etches IIIA/IVA elements from three-dimensional (3D) MAX -phases. MXenes, a rising star of 2D materials, are unique in that they combine the hydrophilicity of their terminating surfaces with the metallic conductivity of transition metal carbonitrides or carbides. Because of its unusual accordion-like structure and the functional groups that are added to the surface during their synthesis, MXenes have enticing electrical, optical, and magnetic properties that can be used for sensing, energy storage, and electromagnetic shielding.

Application of Nanomaterial Modified Aptamer-Based Electrochemical Sensor
The electrochemical aptamer sensor (E-apt sensor), which is composed of biometric elements and signal sensors, has attracted more and more attention for this purpose. The signal sensor usually consists of an electrode substrate, modified layer, and electrochemical signal detection system. The most widely used electrode substrates include a gold electrode (AuE), glassy carbon electrode (GCE), indium tin oxide electrode (ITO), reduced graphene electrode (ERGO), and screen-printed electrode (SPE). Nanomaterials are particularly important in the construction of E-apt sensors, which can be used as aptamer carriers or sensitizers to stimulate or inhibit electrochemical signals.

Application of Nanomaterials in Microbial Electrolysis Cells
Microbial Electrolysis Cells (MECs) are one of the bioreactors that have been used to produce bio-hydrogen by biological methods. Nanomaterials, especially when used to produce bio-hydrogen using MEC, are distinguished by their high electrical conductivity, high interaction surface area, high durability of materials, high catalytic ability to produce bio-hydrogen in MEC, biocompatibility with microorganisms and non-toxicity.

Application of Nanomaterials to Control Cell Behavior
Selective cancer therapy comes from the background of treating cancer cells with nanomaterials and applying light to the NPs. The research on “photo-nano-therapy” has been dramatically increasing since 2010. Photothermal therapies (PTT) has two diverse levels: (1) active or passive tumor homing through engineered phototherapeutic agents such as NPs; (2) irradiating the diseased lesion without harming the normal cells by the controlled light application.

Application of Nanosheets in Nanomedicine
The term “nanosheets” has been coined recently to describe supported and free-standing “ultrathin film” materials, with thicknesses ranging from a single atomic layer to a few tens of nanometers. Owing to their physicochemical properties and their large surface area with abundant accessible active sites, nanosheets (NSHs) of inorganic materials such as Au, amorphous carbon, graphene, and boron nitride (BN) are considered ideal building blocks or scaffolds for a wide range of applications encompassing electronic and optical devices, membranes, drug delivery systems, and multimodal contrast agents, among others. In the specific case of nanomaterials applied to medicine (nanomedicine), this multidisciplinary field has captured the interest of researchers and engineers from different disciplines.

Application of Non-Targeted Screening in Metabolites
Phyto products are widely used in natural products, such as medicines, cosmetics or as so-called “superfoods”. However, the exact metabolite composition of these products is still unknown, due to the time-consuming process of metabolite identification. Non-target screening by LC-HRMS/MS could be a technique to overcome these problems with its capacity to identify compounds based on their retention time, accurate mass and fragmentation pattern. In particular, the use of computational tools, such as deconvolution algorithms, retention time prediction, in silico fragmentation and sophisticated search algorithms, for comparison of spectra similarity with mass spectral databases facilitate researchers to conduct a more exhaustive profiling of metabolic contents.

Application of Plant Waxes in Edible Coatings
Natural waxes are of plant or animal origin. They are resistant to moisture, oxidation, and microbiological decomposition. Plant waxes of commercial and industrial importance are obtained from various plant species and are used to produce cosmetic products, ink, varnishes, luster, candles, pastels, etc. Some of them are used in the composition of some edible coatings applied to various foodstuffs. By using them, the properties and quality of food products are preserved during storage.
