Biography
Tsao Chang
Tsao Chang (Chinese: 张操 born 1942 in Shanghai, China) is a Chinese-American physicist.[1] Chang has taught physics and conducted research on the theory of space and time more than 50 years in China and the United States. Tsao Chang was born in Shanghai China on April 22, 1942. He met his wife Bei Lei Dong while attending Fudan university. They were wed in September 1967. They had 2 boys.

Tryptophan Catabolites in Intestinal Homeostasis and Inflammation
Tryptophan is one of the nine essential amino acids found in common protein-rich foods, such as milk, cheese, eggs, meat, fish, bananas, oats, nuts, and beans. Tryptophan is largely absorbed in the small intestine, and the fraction that reaches the colon is catabolized by numerous bacterial species. Microbial tryptophan catabolites, such as indole and indole derivatives, are potent bioactive molecules that sustain the intestinal barrier’s integrity and contribute to the establishment of immunotolerance against commensal microbes, thereby supporting host–microbiome symbiosis. Perturbations in the composition and metabolic functions of the gut microbiota are associated with a myriad of inflammatory and chronic metabolic diseases, including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), autoimmunity, diabetes, obesity, chronic kidney diseases (CKDs), and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs)

Tryptophan and Proline Oxidation Products in Adipokinetic Hormones
Adipokinetic hormones (AKHs) regulate important physiological processes in insects. AKHs are short peptides with blocked termini and Trp in position 8. Often, proline occupies position 6. Few post-translational modifications have been found, including hydroxyproline ([Hyp6]) and kynurenine (Kyn). Researchers' latest data suggest that the Hyp- and Kyn-containing AKHs occur more often than originally thought and researchers investigated if they are natural or artifactual. Experimental evidence indicated that Hyp occurs endogenously in insect corpora cardiaca.

Proteolytic enzymes are known to be involved in the formation and degradation of various monomeric proteins, but the effect of proteases on the ordered protein aggregates, amyloid fibrils, which are considered to be extremely stable, remains poorly understood. In this work we study resistance to proteolytic degradation of lysozyme amyloid fibrils with two different types of morphology and beta-2-microglobulun amyloids.

Leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, and human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), also known as sleeping sickness, are vector borne zoonosis that affect millions of people worldwide and lead to the death of about 100,000 humans per year. Among several molecular targets proposed, trypanothione reductase (TR) is of particular interest for its critical role in controlling the parasite’s redox homeostasis.
