Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which occurs when microorganisms no longer respond to the drugs used to treat them, is a global public health challenge that requires a global multi-disciplinary approach across academic institutions, government sectors, countries, and societies. Globally, AMR causes almost 700,000 deaths per year, with this number expected to rise to an estimated 10 million deaths annually by 2050, costing the global economy USD 100 trillion by 2050.
