Substituted Azobenzene Molecules with Antimicrobial Properties
Azo molecules, characterized by the presence of a -N=N- double bond, are widely used in various fields due to their sensitivity to external stimuli, ch as light. The emergence of bacterial resistance has pushed research towards designing new antimicrobial molecules that are more efficient than those currently in use. Many authors have attempted to exploit the antimicrobial activity of azobenzene and to utilize their photoisomerization for selective control of the bioactivities of antimicrobial molecules, which is necessary for antibacterial therapy.

Subcritical-Water Extraction of Natural Products
Subcritical water refers to high-temperature and high-pressure water, but below water's critical point of 374 °C and 218 atm. A unique and useful characteristic of subcritical water is that its polarity can be dramatically decreased with increasing temperature. Therefore, subcritical water can behave similarly to methanol or ethanol. This makes subcritical water a green extraction fluid used for a variety of organic species.

Strychnine Poisoning
Strychnine poisoning can be fatal to humans and other animals and can occur by inhalation, swallowing or absorption through eyes or mouth. It produces some of the most dramatic and painful symptoms of any known toxic reaction, making it quite noticeable and a common choice for assassinations and poison attacks. For this reason, strychnine poisoning is often portrayed in literature and film, such as the murder mysteries written by Agatha Christie. The probable lethal oral dose in humans is 1.5 to 2 mg/kg. Similarly, the median lethal dose for dogs, cats, and rats ranges from 0.5 to 2.35 mg/kg.

Structures of Biphenarenes
In 2015, Li and co-workers synthesized a new macrocyclic host named biphenarenes, which including basic biphen[n]arenes, functional biphen[n]arenes, and cage compounds. Typically, biphenarenes are made up of 4,4′-biphenol or 4,4′-biphenol ether units linked by methylene bridges at the 3- and 3′-positions. The synthesis of biphenarenes is based on the linking of reaction modules to form macrocycles by Friedel–Crafts alkylation. In addition, modular synthetic strategy is a versatile method for the synthesis of biphenarenes, which can increase the cavity sizes by changing the structural units. For example, the cavity sizes of biphenarenes can be easily increased using long and rigid structural units or increasing the number of structural units. Meanwhile, gram-scale synthesis of biphenarenes is easily achieved in a laboratory. The purification of biphenarenes can be achieved by column chromatography and recrystallization. Furthermore, biphenarenes are easy to prepare since they can be obtained by a one-step condensation reaction using commercial reagents. Biphenarenes show good performance in adsorptive separation, sensing and drug delivery, and have broad application prospects in chemistry, biology, materials science and other fields.

Structures and Characteristics of Cellulose and Nanocellulose
Nickerson and Habrl extracted nanomaterials named nanocellulose (NC) from cotton linters by using sulfuric-acid hydrolysis in 1947. Since then, various physical and chemical properties of NC, such as its low weight, low cost, high strength, stiffness, and non-toxic properties have been comprehensively investigated in both academia and industry.

Structure, Spectral Properties and Chemistry of Spiropyrans
Spiropyrans (SP) are a well-studied class of photochromic compounds. These compounds are usually named in conformity with the IUPAC rules for nomenclature of heterocyclic spirocompounds, as derivatives of 1′,3′,3′-trimethyl-6-nitrospiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2′-indoline] or 1′,3′-dihydro-1′,3′,3′-trimethyl-6-nitrospiro[2H-1-benzopyran-2,2′-indole].

Structure-Oriented Design of Hyper-Crosslinked Porous Organic Nanomaterials
Hyper-crosslinked porous organic nanomaterials, especially the hyper-crosslinked polymers (HCPs), are a unique class of materials that combine the benefits of high surface area, porous structure, and good chemical and thermal stability all rolled into one. A wide range of synthetic methods offer an enormous variety of HCPs with different pore structures and morphologies, which has allowed HCPs to be developed for gas adsorption and separations, chemical adsorption and encapsulation, and heterogeneous catalysis.
