Mesoscale Dielectric Particles: Unusual Optical Effects
Mesoscale dielectric particles are mesostructures comprising both wavelength-scaled (i.e. dimensions comparable to wavelength) particles and particle chains or arrays. These particles are made of low loss dielectric materials having relatively low refractive index, namely the refractive index less than two. The main unusual optical effects in such structures are discussed below.

The Early Days of Personal Solar Ultraviolet Dosimetry
In the early 1970s, environmental conservationists were becoming concerned that a reduction in the thickness of the atmospheric ozone layer would lead to increased levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation at ground level, resulting in higher population exposure to UV and subsequent harm, especially a rise in skin cancer. At the time, no measurements had been reported on the normal levels of solar UV radiation which populations received in their usual environment, so this lack of data, coupled with increasing concerns about the impact to human health, led to the development of simple devices that monitored personal UV exposure.

Dense Superconducting Hydrides
To date, about twenty hydrides experiments have been reported to exhibit high-Tc superconductivity and their Tc agree well with the predicted values. However, there are still some controversies existing between the predictions and experiments.

Luminescent Carbon Nanoparticles
Among the newest nanostructured luminescent materials, carbon nanoparticles, commonly known as carbon nanodots (CNDs), are of special interest. The term CNDs is commonly used to refer to carbonaceous particles with a size of less than 10 nm. However, the structure and morphology of these particles can be quite diverse. They can include nanoparticles of diamond and graphite, as well as amorphous nanoparticles with a diamond-like, polymer-like, or graphite-like structure. Nanoflakes of graphene and graphene oxide are also often referred to as CNDs. This manuscript referes to luminescent carbon nanoprecipitates synthesised by pyrolysis/thermolysis of organic precursors and  despersed in nanoporous silicas.

Crystallization of LiNbO3
Due to its piezoelectric, ferroelectric, nonlinear optics, and pyroelectric properties, LiNbO3 crystal has found its wide applications in surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices, optical waveguides, optical modulators, and second-harmonic generators (SHG). LiNbO3 crystallized as R3c space group below Curie temperature shows spontaneous polarization that leads to its ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. Physical and chemical characteristics of LiNbO3 are mainly determined by Li/Nb ratio, impurity cations, vacancies in a cation sublattice. Different sizes of LiNbO3 ranging from nanoscale and microscale to bulk size have been synthesized by solid state method, hydrothermal/solvothermal method, Czochralski (Cz) growth method, etc. Most basic and applied studies of LiNbO3 focus on its bulk single crystal.

Radiographic Imaging with Muons
Radiographic imaging with muons, also called Muography, is based on the measurement of the absorption of muons, generated by the interaction of cosmic rays with the earth’s atmosphere, in matter. Muons are elementary particles with high penetrating power, a characteristic that makes them capable of crossing bodies of dimensions of the order of hundreds of meters.

Sunflower Seeds, Oil and Oilcake
Ample amounts of by-products are generated from the oil industry. Among them, sunflower oilcakes have the potential to be used for human consumption, thus achieving the concept of sustainability and circular economy. Sunflower oil contains principally oleic (19.81%) and linoleic (64.35%) acids, which cannot be synthetized by humans and need to be assimilated through a diet. Sunflower seeds are very nutritive (33.85% proteins and 65.42% lipids and 18 mineral elements). Due to the rich content of lipids, they are principally used as a source of vegetable oil. Compared to seeds, sunflower oilcakes are richer in fibers (31.88% and 12.64% for samples in form of pellets and cake, respectively) and proteins (20.15% and 21.60%), with a balanced amino acids profile. The remaining oil (15.77% and 14.16%) is abundant in unsaturated fatty acids (95.59% and 92.12%). The comparison between the three products showed the presence of valuable components that makes them suitable for healthy diets with an adequate intake of nutrients and other bioactive compounds with benefic effects.
