Ion channels play an important role in vascular function and pathology. In this review we gave an overview of recent findings and discussed the role of TRPC and TRPV channels as major regulators of cellular remodeling and consequent vascular disorders. Here, we focused on their implication in 4 relevant vascular diseases: systemic and pulmonary artery hypertension, atherosclerosis and restenosis.

Morella and Myrica Phytochemicals
Myrica and Morella (Myricaceae) are taxonomically close genera, which include species of trees or shrubs with edible fruits that exhibit relevant uses in traditional medicine. A wide array of compounds isolated from different parts of Myrica and/or Morella species possess several biological activities, like anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-obesity, and cardio-/neuro-/hepatoprotective activities, both in vitro and in vivo, with myricanol, myricitrin, quercitrin, and betulin being the most promising. There are still many other compounds isolated from both genera whose biological activities have not been evaluated, which represents an excellent opportunity to discover new applications for those compounds and valorize Morella/Myrica species.

Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Rice
Rice (Oryza sativa L) is a daily staple food crop for more than half of the global population and improving productivity is an important task to meet future demands of the expanding world population. Application of nitrogen (N) fertilization improved rice growth and productivity in the world, but excess use causes environmental and economic issues. One of the main goals of rice breeding is reducing N fertilization while maintaining productivity. Therefore, enhancing rice nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) is essential for the development of sustainable agriculture and has become urgently needed. Many studies have been conducted on the main steps in the use of N including uptake and transport, reduction and assimilation, and translocation and remobilization, and on transcription factors regulating N metabolism. Understanding of these complex processes provides a base for the development of novel strategies to improve NUE for rice productivity under varying N conditions.

Mediterranean Drought: Regional Exceptional Datasets
To define such drought events and their characteristics, separate analyses based on three drought indices were performed at 12-month timescale: the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), and the Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI). A multivariate combined drought index (DXI) was developed by merging the previous three indices for more understanding of droughts’ features at the country and subregional levels. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to identify five different drought subregions based on DXI-12 values for 312 Mediterranean stations and a new special score was defined to classify the multi-subregional exceptional drought events across the Mediterranean Basin (MED). The results indicated that extensive drought events occurred more frequently since the late 1990s, showing several drought hotspots in the last decades in the southeastern Mediterranean and northwest Africa. In addition, the results showed that the most severe events were more detected when more than single drought index was used.

Short Vestibular and Cognitive Training for Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that does not compromise oral or nonverbal reasoning skills, and it is reported in 5–10% of school-aged children. In the literature, different theories have tried to explain the etiology of this disorder. Phonological impairment is the most known hypothesis for dyslexia; however, others researchers suggested that dyslexia could be due to cerebellar impairments. Interestingly, reading performance and arithmetic skills have been suggested to also be related to cerebellar activity. Several subsequent studies from our group and others examining postural performances in the dyslexia population supported this hypothesis, even if other researchers suggested that such an impairment occurred not only in dyslexia but also in subjects having other types of developmental disorders. A visual attentional deficit has also been reported by Facoetti et al.  and our group showed an abnormal oculomotor pattern in children with dyslexia. Based on these different theories, several researchers have tried to develop different training types in order to improve the reading abilities in children with dyslexia.

Melanoma Modeling
Melanoma is a cancer with very poor survival rates, although its treatment has been revolutionized by targeted therapy and immunotherapy. It is a complex disease and here the melanoma complexity has been pointed out  as well as the active role of the tumor microenvironment in melanoma progression and its ability to escape to drug treatment. The recent efforts addressed to the development of ex-vivo micro-tissue models able to recapitulate the live conditions of melanoma cells in human patients have been outlined. In particular, the existing ex-vivo melanoma models are reported into the cover picture and include: two-dimensional cell growth in adherent cell culture in a plastic culture dish (a); multicellular melanoma spheroids (b); 3D Skin reconstruct (c); 3D organotypic melanoma spheroids skin model (d); Skin-on-chip (e); ex-vivo tissue slice (f). Further, the use of ex-vivo models as a novel approach for the researcher to investigate the mechanisms underlying tumor biology and immunotherapeutic resistance in metastatic melanoma has been discussed, as well as their high potential for the development of personalized medicine in melanoma treatment.

MRI Guided Adaptive Radiation Therapy of Glioblastoma
Magnetic resonance imaging linear accelerators (MRLINAC) technology allows clinicians to leverage imaging information gathered during radiation therapy to adapt therapy for a patient while actively undergoing treatment. There is a significant need to understand how imaging changes may correlate to outcomes during treatment for glioblastoma (GBM) as these tumors have a poor prognosis and treatment tailored to the tumor characteristics may improve outcomes. Some of the advantages of MR guided therapy include facilitating a more detailed study of tumor and normal tissue response during chemo-radiation therapy, providing a mechanism to adapt therapy based on imaging changes, identifying new imaging biomarkers for tumor response as well as normal tissue response. These avenues could provide a more tangible way to evaluate pseudoprogression and radiation necrosis with radiogenomics as a mechanism to correlate imaging findings to genomic biomarkers.

Imaging in Portal Vein Thrombosis
The term portal vein thrombosis (PVT) refers to the complete or partial obstruction of blood flow in the portal vein, due to the presence of a thrombus in the vasal lumen. The underlying etiology of PVT remains unclear in up to 50% of children and adults. PVT, either primary or secondary to an underlying chronic liver disease, is the most common cause of prehepatic portal hypertension. On the one hand, primary PVT can be idiopathic, iatrogenic (neonatal umbilical vein catheterization), or related to an altered coagulation status. On the other hand, the progression of most chronic liver diseases leads to fibrosis, which increases sinusoid resistance and determines an abnormal elevation of portal venous pressure. The spontaneous development of a collateral circulation to divert the flow to the systemic circulation is the first observed anomaly, which itself contributes to PVT.

Lagosuchidae
Lagosuchus is an extinct genus of avemetatarsalian archosaur from the Late Triassic of Argentina . The type species of Lagosuchus, Lagosuchus talampayensis, is based on a small partial skeleton recovered from the early Carnian-age Chañares Formation. The holotype skeleton of L. talampayensis is fairly fragmentary, but it does possess some traits suggesting that Lagosuchus was a probable dinosauriform, closely related to dinosaurs. A second potential species of Lagosuchus, L. lilloensis, is based on an assortment of slightly larger and more well-preserved fossils. These larger specimens have been considered much more diagnostic and informative than the original small L. talampayensis skeleton. As a result, some paleontologists have placed the larger specimens into a new genus, Marasuchus. Marasuchus is generally considered one of the more complete early dinosauriforms, useful for estimating ancestral traits for the origin of dinosaurs. This would also render Lagosuchus a nomen dubium, simply a name referring to a fossil which is too fragmentary to have a formal genus. However, other paleontologists support the argument that Lagosuchus is a valid genus, and that Marasuchus is a junior synonym of it.
