Digital Twin Approach in Buildings
In 2011, the term Digital Twin was originally introduced by Michael Grieves to define the synchronization between two realities: physical objects placed in a real space and virtual objects within in virtual space, linked through the mutual exchange of data throughout the entire lifecycle, both in real-time and asynchronously. Digital Twin is among the principal and emerging technological innovations of both Industry 4.0 and the emerging Industry 5.0, enabling an interaction between physical and virtual objects, Big Data, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence. The construction sector, too, is now exploring the potentialities offered by the Digital Twin approach in enhancing innovative, responsible, and sustainable governance of buildings’ lifecycles.

Structural Health Monitoring System Based on Deep Learning
Concrete stands as the most widely used construction material globally due to its versatility, encompassing applications ranging from pavement, multifloor structures, and bridges to dams. However, these concrete structures endure structural stress and require close monitoring to prevent accidents and ensure sustainability throughout their complete life cycle. Artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision (CV) have demonstrated considerable potential in diverse applications within construction engineering, including structural health monitoring (SHM) and inspection processes such as crack and damage detection, as well as rebar exposure. While it is undeniable that CV and deep learning models are transforming the construction industry by offering robust solutions for complex scenarios, there remain numerous challenges pertinent to their applications that require attention.

Behavior Mapping and Its Application in Smart Social Spaces
Behavior mapping is the systematic observation of people using their environments. The Smart Social Spaces research project, recently completed in Sydney, Australia, is used as a vehicle to illustrate the usefulness of this method for understanding the relationships between people and public spaces in cities. Behavior mapping was the central method used to establish what impact the inclusion of smart technology and street furniture had on people’s use of two public spaces. Using this method, it is possible to record real-time patterns of people’s use of public space, enabling local authorities to better support the social use of public space and the management of its infrastructure.

Seismic Design Response Factors
Despite the recent initiatives and developments in building design provisions using performance-based design, practicing engineers frequently adopt force-based design approaches, irrespective of the structural system or building irregularity. Modern seismic building codes adopt the concept of simplifying the complex nonlinear response of a structure under seismic loading to an equivalent linear response through elastic analytical procedures using seismic design response factors. Nevertheless, code-recommended seismic design response factors may not result in a cost-effective design with a uniform margin of safety for different structural systems.

Subsurface Landslide Monitoring Techniques
Landslides are a common and challenging geohazard that may be caused by earthquakes, rainfall, or manmade activity. Various monitoring strategies are used to safeguard populations at risk from landslides. This task frequently depends on the utilization of remote sensing methods, which include the observation of Earth from space, laser scanning, and ground-based interferometry. In recent years, there have been notable advancements in technologies utilized for monitoring landslides (i.e., subsurface systems).
