Roles of Calcium Ions in Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative movement disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons, which results in motor impairment. Ca2+ homeostasis disruption and mitochondrial dysfunction play a vital role in PD aetiology. In addition, the L-type voltage-gated calcium channel is expressed at high levels amongst nigral neurons, and could play a role in the pathogenesis of PD. In the dopaminergic neurons, Ca2+ entry through plasma membrane Cav1 channels drives a sustained feed-forward stimulation of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. The R-type calcium channel is a type of voltage-dependent calcium channel. Available findings suggest that calcium homeostasis in dopaminergic neurons might be a valuable target for developing new drugs for PD patients.

Nutritional Status of Landfill Waste Pickers
Waste pickers are an extremely vulnerable population from an occupational health perspective. In addition, their precarious income generation and fierce relative competition for “spots” on landfill sites to seek out a livelihood compromise their health seeking behaviour, yet they contribute to reduction of waste to landfill sites and environmental sustainability. Knowledge and understanding of the lived realities of waste pickers should guide service delivery planning by community nutrition and public health practitioners.

High Altitude Cerebral Edema Management
High altitude illness in its most severe form can lead to high altitude cerebral edema (HACE). The strategies have focused on prevention with graduated ascents, pharmacologic prophylaxis, and descent at first signs of symptoms. Little is understood regarding treatment with steroids and oxygenation being commonly utilized. Pre-clinical studies with turmeric derivatives have offered promise due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but they warrant validation clinically.

Scientific Production on Health Literacy and Health Education
There has been an emphasis on the importance of health literacy (HL) and health education (HE) as basic tools to empower individuals and the community. The increasing interest in HL and HE has been observed through the evolution of publications and the nature of the main trends in the last few years. Knowing how HL and HE have evolved in scientific publications can help to identify trends and set priorities in this scope.

Target Biological Properties of Cosmetic Ingredients
Cosmetics are, per definition, any substance or mixture intended to be placed in contact with the external parts of the human body (epidermis, hair, nails, lips, and external genital organs) or with teeth or with the membranes of the oral cavity with the sole or main purpose to clean, perfume, change their appearance, protect, keep good condition, or alter body odors.
