Spirulina and its Health Benefits
Spirulina is a kind of blue-green algae (BGA) that is multicellular, filamentous, and prokaryotic. It is also known as a cyanobacterium. It is classified within the phylum known as blue-green algae. Despite the fact that it includes a high concentration of nutrients, such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids—in particular, the necessary omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids—the percentage of total fat and cholesterol that can be found in these algae is substantially lower when compared to other food sources.

Barley
Barley (Hordeum vulgare) has been widely used as a model crop for studying molecularand physiological processes such as chloroplast development and photosynthesis. During thesecond half of the 20th century, mutants such as albostrians led to the discovery of thenuclear-encoded, plastid-localized RNA polymerase and the retrograde (chloroplast-to-nucleus)signalling communication pathway, while chlorina-f2 and xantha mutants helped to shed light onthe chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway, on the light-harvesting proteins and on the organization ofthe photosynthetic apparatus. However, during the last 30 years, a large fraction of chloroplastresearch has switched to the more “user-friendly” model species Arabidopsis thaliana, the firstplant species whose genome was sequenced and published at the end of 2000. Despite its manyadvantages, Arabidopsis has some important limitations compared to barley, including the lackof a real canopy and the absence of the proplastid-to-chloroplast developmental gradient acrossthe leaf blade. These features, together with the availability of large collections of natural geneticdiversity and mutant populations for barley, a complete genome assembly and protocols for genetictransformation and gene editing, have relaunched barley as an ideal model species for chloroplastresearch. In this review, we provide an update on the genomics tools now available for barley, andreview the biotechnological strategies reported to increase photosynthesis eciency in model species,which deserve to be validated in barley.

Magnesium (Mg) is a mineral acting as cofactor of more than 300 enzymes. Mg in farm animals’ is recommended to avoid Mg deficiency, ensure adequate growth and health maintenance. Further, Mg supplementation above the estimated minimum requirements is the best practice to improve farm animals’ performances (fertility and yield) and food products’ quality. In human nutrition, sub-optimal Mg intake has several implications in bone development, muscle function and health maintenance.

Bt Brinjal
The Bt brinjal is a suite of transgenic brinjals (also known as an eggplant or aubergine) created by inserting a crystal protein gene (Cry1Ac) from the soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis into the genome of various brinjal cultivars. The insertion of the gene, along with other genetic elements such as promoters, terminators and an antibiotic resistance marker gene into the brinjal plant is accomplished using Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation. The Bt brinjal has been developed to give resistance against lepidopteron insects, in particular the Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer (Leucinodes orbonalis)(FSB). Mahyco, an Indian seed company based in Jalna, Maharashtra, has developed the Bt brinjal. The genetically modified brinjal event is termed Event EE 1, and Mahyco have also applied for approval of two brinjal hybrids. The Event EE 1 was introgressed by plant breeding into various local varieties by University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Some of the cultivars of brinjal include: Malpur local, Manjari gota, Kudachi local, Udupi local, 112 GO, and Pabkavi local. It was approved for commercialization in India in 2009, but - after an apparent public outcry and rounds of debates in which representatives from Mahyco, the scientific community, and NGO's spoke on the topic - the then Indian Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh, facilitated a moratorium on its release until further, unspecified, tests were conducted. Bt brinjal was approved for commercial release in Bangladesh in 2013.

Polyploidy in Evolution
Polyploidy or whole-genome duplication (WGD) is widespread in nature, agriculture and aquaculture, normal physiology, regeneration, aging, and pathology. WGD results from the premature termination of the cell cycle or cell fusion. If WGD occurs in germ cells, the progeny organisms become completely polyploid, if in somatic cells, the somatic polyploidy arises in certain tissues of a given organism. Polyploidization leads to long-term consequences both in evolution (organismal) and ontogenesis (somatic). Cyclops (Genus)
Cyclops is one of the most common genera of freshwater copepods, comprising over 400 species. Together with other similar-sized non-copepod fresh-water crustaceans, especially cladocera, they are commonly called water fleas. The name Cyclops comes from the Cyclops of Greek mythology which shares the quality of having a single large eye, which may be either red or black in Cyclops.
