Video interview with Dr. Ana Pereira from Sciences and Technology Department, Superior School of Education of Polytechnic Institute of Setubal, Setúbal, Portugal. Her research focus on "Muscular Performance and Training".
Warm-up is used with the purpose to progressively adapt physically and mentally for the main activity, to increase the performance and to decrease the risk of injuries . Researchers focus is analyze the effects of different strategies of specific warm-up on 1 RM performance contributing to increased the knowledge on warm-up for strength performance.
Most of the results about in our work in these field showed that the influence of warm-up on strength performance showed ambiguous results, perhaps caused by the different procedures and methods of evaluation. It seems that specific warm-up is the one that most affect strength performance, revealing its importance for resistance training. However, it was shown that some specific tasks, such as stretching and light loads, can negatively affect the strength performance.
Research in Sport Science must be performed with different populations and during lifespan. Above the athletic performance, also the prescription of physical exercise should be one of the main cost-effective politic interventions to improve quality of life.
