Earth Shelter
An earth shelter, also called an earth house, earth bermed house, or underground house, is a structure (usually a house) with earth (soil) against the walls, on the roof, or that is entirely buried underground. Earth acts as thermal mass, making it easier to maintain a steady indoor air temperature and therefore reduces energy costs for heating or cooling. Earth sheltering became relatively popular after the mid-1970s, especially among environmentalists. However, the practice has been around for nearly as long as humans have been constructing their own shelters.

Honda Ridgeline (2017–Present)
The second generation Ridgeline took a different approach in design from the first generation Ridgeline by sharing Honda's new "global light truck platform," found in the third generation Honda Pilot as well as other large Honda vehicles. However, Honda did have to create or modify components in order to support their next generation pickup, including: Despite these modifications, Honda has stated that 73% of the second generation Ridgeline's components remain common in some way with the third generation Pilot. With the mixed success of the first generation Ridgeline, Honda posted "an open letter from the company's head of truck product planning, denying rumors that the Ridgeline would be dropped and insisting that a pickup truck will remain part of the company's portfolio." With that proclamation, Honda became committed to the development of a new Ridgeline. After a one-year hiatus in Ridgeline production, the second generation of their mid-size truck went on sale in June 2016 as a 2017 model year vehicle. According to Honda, the Ridgeline was not designed to steal sales from the more traditional trucks sold in North America, but was developed to "give the 18% of Honda owners who also own pickups a chance to make their garages a Honda-only parking area."

A rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) or rigid-inflatable boat (RIB) is a lightweight but high-performance and high-capacity boat constructed with a solid, shaped hull and flexible tubes at the gunwale. The design is stable and seaworthy. The inflatable collar allows the vessel to maintain buoyancy if a large quantity of water is shipped aboard due to bad sea conditions. The RIB is a development of the inflatable boat. Uses include work boats (supporting shore facilities or larger ships) in trades that operate on the water, military craft, where they are used in patrol roles and to transport troops between vessels or ashore, and lifeboats.

LED-Based Photoacoustic System
Photoacoustics, being a noninvasive and functional modality, has the potential for small-animal imaging. However, the conventional photoacoustic tomographic systems use pulsed lasers, making it expensive, bulky, and require long acquisition time. We have developed a photoacoustic and ultrasound tomographic imaging system with LEDs as the light source and acoustic detection using a linear transducer array. We have demonstrated full-view tomographic imaging of a mouse.

Methods of Microstructured Surface Finishing
For microstructured surfaces, surface accuracy and surface quality are two key elements, because surface shape determines its function and surface quality affects its performance. Precision machining techniques such as cutting and grinding are considered to be a more reasonable and effective way for microstructured surfaces of tens to hundreds of microns at present [5]. Although the precision machining technology can meet the requirements of sub-micron accuracy, it cannot effectively guarantee the surface quality. Deformation of the material during the removal process will result in the formation of residual stress, surface/subsurface damage and other defects, tool marks and ripples, etc.[6] These defect will seriously affect the performance of microstructured work pieces importantly [7][8][9]. Compared with flat and curved surfaces, the microstructured surface is complicated, small in size and discontinuous, which leads to the over-polishing phenomenon in the sharp corner area and the groove area is difficult to be machined. Therefore, it is difficult to polish the microstructured surface while improving the surface quality of microstructure without reducing the accuracy of its surface shape.
