Non-Classical Peptide Features for Bioactivity Prediction
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been represented by machine learning (ML) algorithms that use sequence-based features for the discovery of new peptidic scaffolds with promising biological activity. From AI perspective, evolutionary algorithms have been also applied to the rational generation of peptide libraries aimed at the optimization/design of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs).

Applications of Big Data in the Aerospace Domain
The term Big Data (BD) refers to massive datasets deriving from multiple sources such as people, sensors, or machines. Big Data applications have attracted ever-increasing attention in several scientific and business domains. Biomedicine, transportation, entertainment, and aerospace are only a few examples of sectors which are increasingly dependent on applications, where knowledge is extracted from huge volumes of heterogeneous data.

Approaches to Predict Pedestrian Dynamics
Identifying the factors that control the dynamics of pedestrians is a crucial step toward modeling and building various pedestrian-oriented simulation systems. Several approaches have been proposed by researchers to predict pedestrians’ movement characteristics using different methods and techniques. Based solely on experimental evidence, researchers isolate the factors that influence the interactions between pedestrians in single-file movement. With artificial neural networks, one can approximate the fitting function that describes pedestrians’ movement without having modeling bias. The analysis is focused on the distances and range of interactions across neighboring pedestrians.

ID2SBVR: Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Rules
Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Rules (SBVR) is a standard that is applied in describing business knowledge in the form of controlled natural language. Business process designers develop SBVR from formal documents and later translate it into business process models. In many immature companies, these documents are often unavailable and could hinder resource efficiency efforts. ID2SBVR mines fact type candidates using word patterns or extracting triplets (actor, action, and object) from sentences.

Convergence of Software-Defined Vehicular Cloud
Vehicular cloud computing (VCC) and connected vehicles have prompted the intensive investigation of communication and computing solutions. As an important enabler, software-defined network (SDN) broadly changes the design of vehicle services, from resource allocation to ambitious autonomous cars. However, VCC architectures face challenges that hinder the vision of providing reliable services to connected vehicles. As a result, deploying cloud computing (VC) services using SDN network has emerged as a viable option. Therefore, software-defined VC architecture (SDVC) dynamically manages the control and resource utilization of VC by centralizing the overall knowledge. In addition, SDN stands as the representative technique of virtual resources and network function virtualization (NFV). NFV is integrated into SDVC frameworks to design extended SDVC (ESDVC) for dynamic, adaptive VC maintenance, VC network slicing management, and to meet constraint requirements such as network latency and reliable connectivity.

GAN-Based Applications in Parkinson’s Disease Diagnosis and Treatment
Data scarcity in the healthcare domain is a major drawback for most state-of-the-art technologies engaging artificial intelligence. The unavailability of quality data due to both the difficulty to gather and label them as well as due to their sensitive nature create a breeding ground for data augmentation solutions. Parkinson’s Disease (PD) which can have a wide range of symptoms including motor impairments consists of a very challenging case for quality data acquisition. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) can help alleviate such data availability issues.

Traffic Load Distribution Fairness in Mobile Social Networks
Mobile social networks suffer from an unbalanced traffic load distribution due to the heterogeneity in mobility of nodes (humans) in the network. A few nodes in these networks are highly mobile, and the proposed social-based routing algorithms are likely to choose these most “social” nodes as the best message relays.
