1. Introduction

Encyclopedia MDPI launched the Academic Video Service in 2024 for all scholars[1]. This Service is to serve all scholars for presenting their research in a more vivid way and enhance the impact of their publications.

2. History

Encyclopedia MDPI established its video section on 2021. This section is to collect videos related to academic research and provide all visual sources for all scholars. Later, Encyclopedia set a video production team to provide a few video services for making video abstracts as a trial. From the feedback of scholars, they thought the videos are of great value and promote their papers. Therefore, Encyclopedia MDPI increased the size of output and launched officially on 2024 as an online service for scholars to apply on: https://encyclopedia.pub/video_material. Encyclopedia MDPI held a ScholarVision Creation event on 2024 to promote its video service and more than 300 scholars participate. Nowadays, Encyclopedia Academic Video Service has served more than 500+ scholars from over 30 countries and on the other hand collaborated with 20+ renown journals like Sustainabliity, Animals, Nutrients, Remote Sensing, Entropy, nanomaterials and so on.

3. Key Value

According to the related paper[2], A well-crafted video abstract can boost an academic paper's citations by 20%. And even in the same journal, papers published with the video abstracts get higher ranks compared to the ones without. Other studies have also confirmed this[3][4]. According to a Wiley report, articles accompanied by a video show a 10% increase in Altmetric Attention scores and 80% higher full text views on Wiley Online Library. A 2014 study found that about 5% of publications included a video abstract, but among the most-read publications, this proportion was significantly higher, ranging from 25-30%[5].

4. Video Type

Video Abstract

Video Abstract is a short video that summarizes the key points of a research paper, typically within 5 minutes. A video abstract highlights the most critical information, making it easier for viewers to grasp the essence of the research quickly.

Short Take

A short take uses original animations to vividly showcase a key aspect of the article, such as explaining principles or detailing experimental processes, within a 1 minute timeframe. Short Takes are an effective way to communicate important information efficiently in today's fast-paced digital environment.

Scholar Interview

Scholar interviews provide academic researchers with the opportunity to share the background stories of their publications in face-to-face discussions.
