This video presents a novel approach to airport sustainability, featuring a comparative analysis of frameworks from the Airports Council International (ACI) and the World Economic Forum (WEF). It includes a case study on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting for major US airports, explores historical perspectives and legal considerations, and examines key sustainability metrics. Adopting sustainability reporting offers airports significant advantages, such as enhanced transparency, accountability, improved risk management, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, stronger community engagement, and better investor relations. In the United States, all 30 large hub airports publish some form of sustainability information, which can range from comprehensive reports and topic-specific documents to website content. Among them, eight airports now publish a dedicated ESG report, a format of growing importance due to its international use and influence on investment decisions. This content provides an analysis of the information within these ESG reports and compares the reporting frameworks used by airports that incorporate the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Case studies of ESG reports from Salt Lake City and Dallas Fort Worth Airports are used to illustrate real-world examples, and their use of the SDGs is compared against the frameworks identified by ACI and WEF. The discussion offers a thorough and contextual examination of airport ESG reporting and explores how these frameworks may evolve to meet the rising interest in ESG reporting for US airports. The insights provided can serve as a valuable guide for airports looking to enhance their own sustainability reporting practices.
