Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Rural Education
AI has immense potential in transforming rural education - bringing solutions to long-standing problems under resource constraints, insufficient teaching, or other forms of educational inequality. Delivering AI-based technologies to limited frameworks in educational systems can be particularly effective in providing tailored learning experiences, virtual classrooms with access to quality education, and using NLP to break language barriers. This integration could greatly contribute to an equitable educational environment in which rural students have opportunities similar to those in the cities for their peers. Despite these benefits, there are a number of challenges to the widespread implementation of artificial intelligence in rural education: poor infrastructure, higher cost of implementation, and lack of instructor training. Besides, the ethical implication on privacy, information security, and prejudices issues in artificial intelligence needs to be handled sensibly to promote equity and inclusivity. Overcoming these is mostly the collaborative effort between governmental institutions, academic institutions, and developers of the technology coupled with financial input towards infrastructure and educating the educators. The present paper discusses the role that artificial intelligence can play in bridging the gap between urban and rural education, highlights its potential applicability, and discusses the challenges that should be overcome to implement it efficiently. Finally, recommendations are made for further policy development and the enhancement of AI projects in rural education to make the education of all learners more equal and effective.

Denominational School Output Differences
Abstract In many education systems both public and private schools can be discerned. Differences pertain to the way they are governed and are financed, their pupil population, their curriculum and outcomes. Despite a high level of secularization in the Netherlands, most primary schools still are private denominational schools. One explanation for this paradox is that parents choose a denominational school because of its high quality and output in terms of academic achievement. This study aims at answering the question whether this argument holds true. Using large-scale data, a difference is made between gross outcomes (‘raw scores’) and net outcomes (after correcting for the schools’ ’input’ in terms of parental social and ethnic backgrounds). The study finds there to be hardly any net denominational differences. In so far as gross differences exist, these might be explained by the pupils’ social and ethnic backgrounds. In other words, there is a discrepancy between parental perceptions of gross outcomes and the reality of net scores that present a fairer indication of the actual performance of a school.

Visual models representing police UOF decision-making are used for both police training and public communication. However, most models have not been empirically developed or assessed in either the applied police or vision science literatures, representing significant gaps in knowledge. This entry describes high school science course taking in the United States (U.S.). High school science course taking refers to the selection, enrollment, and completion of science-related coursework during grades nine through twelve. It encompasses both the timing, quantity, and the rigor (or level of challenge) of science courses. Science course taking in high school includes both foundational or core courses like biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. Students may also take advanced science courses such as Advanced Placement (AP), (International Baccalaureate (IB), career and technical education (CTE) or applied, and dual credit or dual enrollment science courses. Some advanced courses meet core course requirements (e.g., AP Physics). This entry focuses on core science course taking, and the distinction between core or advanced core is beyond its scope. A discussion of CTE and dual credit or dual enrollment science course taking is also beyond the entry’s scope. The significant variability in core high school science course taking and historic unequal distribution of opportunities highlights the need for ongoing monitoring of factors influencing course taking to promote equity in access and outcomes. This entry presents a brief history of standards and graduation requirements surrounding high school science course taking, then briefly reviews science course pathways classifications and current trends in course enrollment and completion. A review of current trends in the context of historical developments can help the high school science education policy and practice field take stock of some of the factors that influence current patterns.
