APRHF Rail Rangers is one of several affiliates of the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation (APRHF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and promote the role that passenger rail played in the building of the United States of America. Interpretive Guides with APRHF Rail Rangers provide educational interpretive programs on-board the South Shore Line between Chicago and South Bend, private rail excursions, group rail charters, and at various railroad museums and train shows. Midwest Rail Rangers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to present on-board educational programs to railroad passengers in the Midwestern United States regarding such topics as history, ecology, and geology. Interpretive Guides with Midwest Rail Rangers provide interpretive programs on-board the South Shore Line between Chicago, Illinois and South Bend, Indiana two to three weekends per month, year-round. The Midwest Rail Rangers also partner with the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad to present history talks aboard their Sky Parlour Car, a former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway ("Santa Fe") Hi-Level lounge car / Amtrak Pacific Parlour Car. USFC Grampus
USFC Grampus was a fisheries research ship in commission in the fleet of the United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries, usually called the United States Fish Commission, from 1886 to 1903 and then as USFS Grampus in the fleet of its successor, the United States Bureau of Fisheries, until 1917. She was a schooner of revolutionary design in terms of speed and safety and influenced the construction of later commercial fishing schooners. Grampus′s home ports were Woods Hole and Gloucester, Massachusetts . During her 31-year career, Grampus made significant contributions to the understanding of the mackerel fishery off the United States East Coast , Canada , and the British colony of Newfoundland. She also investigated the tilefish population, conducted fishery investigations in the Gulf of Mexico, and contributed to fish culture work in New England to propagate the mackerel, cod, and lobster.

USS John Hancock was an armed steam tug in the United States Navy during the 1850s. She and her crew saw action against rioters in Massachusetts , filbusters in Cuba, rebels in China , and Native Americans in the Washington Territory. USS Wanderer (1857)
The first USS Wanderer was a high-speed schooner originally built for pleasure. It was used in 1858 to illegally import slaves from Africa. It was seized for service with the United States Navy during the American Civil War. In U.S. Navy service from 1861 to 1865, and under outright U.S. Navy ownership from 1863 to 1865, she was used by the Union Navy as a gunboat, as a tender, and as a hospital ship. She was decommissioned, put into merchant use, and lost off Cuba in 1871.

Context-sensitive solutions (CSS) is a theoretical and practical approach to transportation decision-making and design that takes into consideration the communities and lands through which streets, roads, and highways pass ("the context"). The term is closely related to but distinguishable from context-sensitive design in that it asserts that all decisions in transportation planning, project development, operations, and maintenance should be responsive to the context in which these activities occur, not simply the design process.
