Linguistic Variation

Edit

Linguistic variation refers to the coexistence of alternative linguistic forms within a language, including differences in pronunciation, vocabulary, morphology, syntax, and discourse patterns across speakers and communicative contexts [1]. Such variation may correlate with regional origin, social identity, age, social class, interactional setting, and communicative style, while remaining systematic rather than random [1]. In sociolinguistics, linguistic variation is analyzed through the distribution of linguistic variables and their variants across populations and contexts, as well as their relationships with social structure and language change.
