Language Discrimination

Edit

Language discrimination refers to the unequal treatment of individuals or groups based on their language use, accent, dialect, or perceived linguistic background [1][2]. It may occur when linguistic characteristics are used to restrict access to employment, education, public services, or social participation, or to assign differential status and credibility to speakers [1][2]. In sociolinguistics, language discrimination is examined in relation to language ideologies, linguistic prejudice, and the social hierarchies through which particular language varieties are privileged while others are stigmatized.
