Kanji

Edit

Kanji are logographic characters used in the Japanese writing system to represent lexical and semantic units, with individual characters generally associated with particular meanings and conventional readings rather than directly corresponding to single phonological segments. In Japanese orthography, kanji function alongside kana systems, which represent moraic phonological units, forming a mixed writing system that combines logographic and syllabic principles. Kanji characters may have multiple readings determined by linguistic context, including readings derived from Japanese usage and readings associated with their historical adaptation from Chinese characters [1].
