Verbatim Response

Edit

A verbatim response is a response that reproduces all or part of preceding linguistic material using the same words in the same order, rather than reformulating the material through paraphrase [1]. In linguistic and discourse analysis, verbatim responses may be examined as forms of repetition within interaction, and their identification depends on the degree of lexical and grammatical correspondence between the original utterance and the response [1][2]. The term is distinct from a paraphrased response, which restates the content in different wording, and from a response that merely conveys equivalent meaning without reproducing the original linguistic form [1].
