Remote Sensing Sensor
Edit

A remote sensing sensor is an instrument that detects and measures physical signals from objects, surfaces, or environmental phenomena without direct physical contact, converting the detected signals into data for subsequent analysis and interpretation [1]. In Earth observation, remote sensing sensors primarily measure electromagnetic radiation within selected portions of the spectrum, including visible, infrared, and microwave wavelengths [1][2]. Sensors can differ in their measurement principles and in their spatial, spectral, radiometric, and temporal characteristics, which determine the type and quality of information that can be obtained from observations [3]. Remote sensing sensors may operate as passive systems that detect naturally occurring radiation or as active systems that emit energy and measure the returned signal [1]. They can also be designed as imaging or non-imaging instruments according to whether their measurements are spatially organized to form an image [1]. Remote sensing sensors are deployed on observation platforms such as satellites and aircraft and constitute the primary measurement component through which remotely observable properties of the Earth and its environment are recorded as structured data [1][4].
