Digital Lexicography

Edit

Digital lexicography is the branch of lexicography concerned with the theory, methods, modelling, compilation, representation, dissemination, and study of dictionaries and other lexicographic resources in digital environments. It encompasses the transformation of lexicographic data into structured, machine-processable forms and the design of digitally mediated access to lexical information, including dynamically generated or searchable dictionary content. Its defining feature is not simply the electronic reproduction of a print dictionary, but the integration of computational data structures, digital interfaces, and potentially corpus- or database-based methods into the lexicographic resource and its production process. Digital lexicography is therefore broader than electronic lexicography understood only as the study of electronic dictionaries, while remaining distinct from general computational linguistics because its central object is the lexicographic description and presentation of lexical units for dictionary users [1][2] .
