Equity in educational access is the condition in which individuals and groups have fair and effective opportunities to enter, participate in, and continue through education, regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, disability, language, ethnicity, location, or other structurally disadvantaging factors [1][2][3][4]. It refers not only to formal entitlement to education but also to the removal of practical barriers—such as cost, distance, discrimination, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of support services—that prevent equal participation under comparable conditions [1][2]. Equity in educational access is characterized by differentiated policy and resource measures that address unequal starting points so that access is meaningful rather than merely nominal [2][3][4]. In policy and research contexts, the term denotes fairness in opportunity structures at entry and participation stages, distinct from (though related to) equity in learning quality and outcomes [1][2][3][4].
