1. Introduction

Professor B. A. Chopade is a distinguish scientist, innovator and academician of international repute. His research area includes microbiology, biotechnology and nanotechnology. He is research mentor, institution builder, great visionary and innovative administrator. Currently he is working as Vice-Chancellor as well as advisor to the Pro- Chancellor at AKS University, Satna, Madhya Pradesh, India from 2023.

2. Achievements

He is former Vice-Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India from 2014-2019 and developed BAMU as a premier university in India. He completed his Ph D in microbiology and molecular genetics at Department of Microbiology, University of Nottingham, England ( 1983-1986) under prestigious National Overseas Scholarship of Government of India. He also completed his post-doctoral research in genetic engineering and molecular biology at University of Illinois at Chicago, USA (1994-1996) with world famous scientist Professor A M Chakraborty under most prestigious Fogarty International Research Award by Government of USA.

He is founding director of Institute of Bioinformatics and biotechnology (IBB) at the SP Pune University, Pune. He established India’s first 5/6 year integrated M Sc/ M Tech. programme in biotechnology with emphasis on research at undergraduate level as well as 2 year M Sc Virology programme. He was Head of the Department of microbiology at the S P Pune University for more than 12 years and senior professor of microbiology for 36 years.

He has published more than 150 research papers in 90 different international peer review journals of high impact factor. The total impact factor of his research is more than 500 with H Index 55 and I10 Index 115 and total citations are more than 10150. His Scopus citations are more than 6343 with H Index 44. His Research Gate citations are more than 9050 with reads more than 84300. His research work has been cited more than 5 times by Nobel laurate professor Arthur Kornberg from University of Stanford ,USA. His Vidwan score is 9.8/10 and probably this is highest in microbiology in India.

AD Scientific Index of 2023 has ranked Prof. B. A. Chopade as a top scientist in SP Pune University as well as in Asia and world. He is among the top two percent scientist of the world. He has two USA Patents and 7 Indian patents and has developed a new herbal medicine Infex which is manufactured by Shrusti Herbals Bangalore, India.

He is outstanding mentor in microbiology and biotechnology and has guided 36 Ph D, 10 Post- Doctoral scientists, 4 M Phil and 18 M Tech by research. He has procured research grants of Rs. 48 cr from national and international funding agencies. His work has been cited in 3 text books of microbiology published from USA and Europe. He has received more than 42 national and international awards and the most prominent awards are Fogarty International Research Award by Government of USA and Bronze Medal by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) USA for his work on DNA Bricks. He is working as Chairman of Programme Advisory Committee of SEED Division of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India , New Delhi, India. At present he has been working as Rashtriya Pramukh of Anusandhan Prakoshth (Head, Research Cell) of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Nagpur, India.
