String theory is pitched as one of the most Mathematically challenging topics in Physics and it rightfully is so. However, it turns out that the basic idea behind the theory is extremely simple and straightforward, something as simple as calculating the area of a two dimensional surface. This area helps you in writing down an action for a string which is famously known as the Nambu-Goto Action. I will try to explain where do we start to arrive at this beautiful action for a relativistic string.
