Video Introduction

This video is adapted from 10.3390/fuels2040033

This video demonstrates the life testing of a vertical 150-mm-diameter 6-m long water-cooled pulsed detonation gun producing ultra-superheated gas mixture (composed mainly of N2, H2O, and CO2) by pulsed gaseous detonations of a triple methane-air-steam mixture at a frequency up to 4–5 Hz. The temperature of the outcoming gas jets exceeds 1500 °C. Such ultra-superheated gas can be used as a gasifying agent for high-temperature allothermal atmospheric-pressure gasification of organic wastes to produce syngas with full utilization of available resources without harmful emissions into water bodies and atmosphere . This gun is the scaled-up version of the 50-mm detonation gun presented at https://encyclopedia.pub/20282. Its maximum thermal power is 2 MW. The ignition source is a standard automobile spark plug located on the top of the tube. Detonation is periodically initiated via deflagration-to-detonation transition facilitated by properly shaped and arranged obstacles mounted inside the tube. In the video, the produced ultra-superheated gas is utilized to warm-up water in a heat exchanger, whereas the cooled gas is exhausted to the ambient atmosphere.
