A woman’s eligibility to be appointed as a judge in Shariah courts in Muslim societies has been a debated issue for decades. But recent research found the discussion on the qualifications of a judge among the classical scholars to be extraneous and irrelevant to the discussion on appointing women Quazi in Sri Lanka as their context is different from the context of Muslims in Sri Lanka.
