To attain high power levels, excellent efficiency, and reliability, a modular approach has been seen as a straightforward solution. However, it increases the complexity of the GaN-based charging system's hardware and controller architecture. This video depicts a thorough control strategy for a GaN-modular charging system capable of implementing a precise constant current and constant voltage (CC/CV) charging profile as well as good current sharing capabilities. Furthermore, by implementing a proper load shedding scheme, the efficiency of the proposed system is improved throughout a wide range of charging power. In an isolated phase shift full bridge stage, the average current mode control not only maintains constant current charging but also automatically achieves current balancing among converter modules. Moreover, simulation results of a 11kW On-Board Charging (OBC) system have been included here to demonstrate the feasibility of the designed control method.
