Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, are aircraft that operate without a pilot on board. They can be autonomously controlled and operated via sensors, microprocessors and other electronic gadgets. UAVs were originally developed for military purposes, but have since found various applications, including commercial, scientific and recreational uses.
