Summary

Dear Colleagues,

The discovery of new drugs and their biomedical applications remains one of the most fascinating subjects in the competitive research world. As such, conducting innovative research in this field presents numerous challenges. Given the significance, broad scope, wide applicability and uses of drugs and drug candidates, Encyclopedia is pleased to announce a Topical Collection dedicated to this topic.

This Topical Collection will focus on a wide range of compelling topics on drug discovery-related research. Advancing this field requires diverse expertise and in-depth knowledge on specific subject areas related to medicine. Innovative research on medicinally active substances may integrate multiple disciplines or focus on a single key question. Topics related to chemistry, biology, pharmacy, and clinical science are central to this Issue. In short, publications in this Topical Collection may focus on the following: synthesis, chemical modifications, natural products, structure–activity relationships, mechanisms of action, and preclinical and clinical results on molecules. Papers involving innovative procedures used in drug discovery research (such as microwave, ultrasound, solid-phase, combinatorial, ionic liquid, nanotechnology, photochemical, computational, asymmetric, and biocatalytic methods) can be included in this Issue.
