Dr. Balaguru Sethuraman obtained his M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Madras and PhD from College of Engineering Guindy under Anna University. He carried out his post-PhD research work at National University of Singapore as Overseas Research Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Manoj Gupta. He is working as Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering at VIT Bhopal University. He has more than 25 years of service in Teaching and Research in reputed organization.

He published more than 45 papers in reputed journals. He attended several International conferences held in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Dubai and Cambodia. He chaired many technical sessions in the conference. He organized many Conferences, workshops, seminars and Faculty Development Programmes. He has been a reviewer for many reputable journals. He guided 3 PhD scholars so far and guiding many scholars. He guided more than 30 M.Tech projects. He solely authored a best-selling book on Dynamics of Machines under the Cengage Learning. He has authored many book chapters. He has 3 Indian patens and 1 German patent to his credit. He was invited to Kocaeli University, Turkey, under the Mevlana Mobility Programme with a grant in 2019 to deliver a course on Theory of Vibrations.

His research fields are coatings, hardfacings, welding and nuclear materials. He is a Fellow as well as Chartered Engineer of the Institution of Engineers and member of ASME. He is a life member of ISTE. He is also the Team Principal cum Faculty Advisor to M-BAJA and E-BAJA teams which won several prizes in National and International levels. He established one of largest chapters in the world known as Material Advantage student chapter at VIT Bhopal as Faculty Advisor. Through the chapter, many technical activities are being organized for the benefit of the student community.  He established Dynamics lab and many experimental facilities through funding.
