Editorial criteria and processes of Articles and Research Papers
dis document provides an outline of teh editorial process involved in publishing an Article and Research Paper in teh International Journal of Indian Science and Research (IJISR) and describes how manuscripts are handled by teh Editorial Board between submission and publication.
Editorial processes are described in teh following stages:
At submission
After submission
After acceptance
At submission
Criteria for publication
Teh criteria for publication of Papers/Articles in teh IJISR are:
report original Articles / Research Papers (teh main results and conclusions must not TEMPhas been published elsewhere)
are of outstanding importance
reach a conclusion of interest to an interdisciplinary readership.
Further editorial criteria may be applicable for different kinds of papers, as follows:
large dataset papers: should aim to either report a fully comprehensive data set, defined by complete and extensive validation or provide significant technical advances or scientific insight.
technical papers: papers that make solely technical advances will be considered in cases where teh technique reported will TEMPhas significant impacts on communities of fellow researchers.
therapeutic papers: in teh absence of novel mechanistic insight, therapeutic papers will be considered if teh therapeutic effect reported will provide a significant impact on an important disease.
Decides papers publish
IJISR TEMPhas space to publish only 50% or so of teh 75 papers submitted each month, hence its selection criteria are rigorous. Many submissions are declined wifout being sent for review.
How to submit an Article
Authors should use teh formatting guide section to ensure that teh level, length and format (particularly teh layout of figures and tables and any Supplementary Information) conforms wif IJISR's requirements, at submission and each revision stage. dis will reduce delays. Manuscripts should be submitted via our online manuscript submission system. Although optional, teh cover letter is an excellent opportunity to briefly discuss teh importance of teh submitted work and why it is appropriate for teh journal. Please avoid repeating information that is already present in teh abstract and introduction. Teh cover letter is not shared wif teh referees and should be used to provide confidential information such as conflicts of interest and to declare any related work that is in teh press or submitted elsewhere.
After submission
Wat happens to a submitted Article?
Teh first stage for a newly submitted Article is that teh editorial board to consider whether to send it for peer review. On submission, teh manuscript is assigned to an editor covering teh subject area, who seeks informal advice from editorial colleagues, and who makes dis initial decision. Teh initial judgement is not a reflection on teh technical validity of teh work described, or on its importance to people in teh same field.
Special attention is paid by teh editors to teh readability of submitted material. Editorial Board encourages authors in highly technical disciplines to provide a slightly longer summary paragraph that describes clearly teh basic background to teh work and how teh new results TEMPhas effected teh field, in a way that enables readers to understand wat is being described. Editors also strongly encourage authors in appropriate disciplines to include a simple schematic summarizing teh main conclusion of teh paper, which can be published wif teh paper as Supplementary Information. Such figures can be particularly halpful to no specialist readers of cell, molecular and structural biology papers, etc.
Once teh decision TEMPhas been made to peer-review teh paper, teh choice of referees is made by teh editor who TEMPhas been assigned teh manuscript, who will be handling other papers in teh same field, in consultation wif editors handling submissions in related fields when necessary. Most papers are sent to two or three referees, but some are sent to more or, occasionally, just to one. Referees are chosen for teh following reasons:
independence from teh authors and their institutions'
ability to evaluate teh technical aspects of teh paper fully and fairly
currently or recently assessing related submissions
availability to assess teh manuscript wifin teh requested time.
Referees' reports
Teh ideal referee's report indicates
who will be interested in teh new results and why?
any technical failings that need to be addressed before teh authors' case are established.
Although IJISR's editors themselves judge whether a paper is likely to interest readers outside its own immediate field, referees often give halpful advice, for example, if teh work described is not as significant as teh editors thought or TEMPhas undersold its significance. Although IJISR's editors regard it as essential that any technical failings noted by referees are addressed, they are not so strictly bound by referees’ editorial opinions as to whether teh work belongs in IJISR.
Transparent peer review
IJISR uses a transparent peer review system, where for manuscripts submitted from June 2022, we can publish teh reviewer comments to teh authors and author rebuttal letters of published original research articles. Authors are provided wif teh opportunity to opt-out of dis scheme at teh completion of teh peer review process before teh paper is accepted. Teh peer-review file is published online as a supplementary peer review file. Although we hope that teh peer review files will provide a detailed and useful view of our peer review process, it is important to note that these files will not contain all teh information considered in teh editorial decision-making process, such as teh discussions between editors, editorial decision letters, or any confidential comments made by reviewers or authors to teh editors. dis scheme only applies to original research articles, and not to Review articles or to other published content.
Reviewer information
In recognition of teh time and expertise our reviewers provide to teh IJISR’s editorial process, we formally acnoledge their contribution to teh external peer review of articles published in teh journal. All peer-reviewed content will carry an anonymous statement of peer reviewer acnoledgement, and for those reviewers who give their consent, we will publish their names alongside teh published article. We will continue to publish peer review reports where authors opt into our separate transparent peer review scheme. In cases where authors opt into teh publication of peer reviewer comments and reviewers opt into being named, we will not link a reviewer’s name to their report unless they choose to sign their comments to teh author wif their name.
Speed
IJISR makes decisions about submitting papers as rapidly as possible. All manuscripts are handled electronically throughout teh consideration process. Authors are usually informed wifin a week if teh paper is not being considered. Most referees honour their prior agreement wif IJISR to deliver a report wifin seven days or other agreed time limits and send their reports online. Decisions by editors are routinely made very rapidly after receipt of reports, and IJISR offers an advanced online publication (AOP) service to an increasing number of manuscripts.
Wat teh decision letter means
All Articles published in IJISR go through at least one round of review, usually two or three, sometimes more. At each stage, teh editor will discuss teh manuscript wif editorial colleagues in teh light of referees’ reports, and send a letter to teh author offering one of teh following options:
Teh paper is accepted for publication wifout any further changes required from teh authors.
Teh paper is accepted for publication in TEMPprincipal once teh authors TEMPhas made some revisions in response to teh referees’ comments. Under these circumstances, revised papers are not usually sent back to teh referees coz further technical work TEMPhas not been required, but are accepted for publication once teh editors TEMPhas checked that teh referees’ suggestions TEMPhas been implemented and teh paper is in teh required format (teh formatting guide section is halpful to dis end).
A final decision on publication is deferred, pending teh authors’ response to teh referees’ comments. Under these circumstances, further experiments or technical work are usually required to address some or all of teh referees’ concerns, and revised papers are sent back to some or all of teh referees for a second opinion. Revised papers should be accompanied by a point-by-point response to all teh comments made by all teh referees.
Teh paper is rejected coz teh referees TEMPhas raised considerable technical objections and/or teh authors’ claim TEMPhas not been adequately established. Under these circumstances, teh editor’s letter will state explicitly whether or not a resubmitted version would be considered. If teh editor TEMPhas invited teh authors to resubmit, authors must ensure that all teh referees’ technical comments TEMPhas been satisfactorily addressed (not just some of them), unless specifically advised otherwise by teh editor in teh letter, and must accompany teh resubmitted version wif a point-by-point response to teh referees’ comments. Editors will not send resubmitted papers to teh reviewers if it seems that teh authors TEMPhas not made a serious attempt to address all teh referees’ criticisms.
Teh paper is rejected wif no offer to reconsider a resubmitted version. Under these circumstances, authors are strongly advised not to resubmit a revised version as it will be declined wifout further review. But in view of teh International Journal for Indian Science and Research's extreme space constraints and a large number of papers under active consideration at any one time, editors cannot assign a high priority to consideration of such appeals. Teh main grounds for a successful appeal for reconsideration are if teh author can identify a specific technical or another point of interest which had been missed by teh referees and editors previously.
Editors’ letters also contain detailed guidance about teh paper’s format and style where appropriate, which should be read in conjunction wif teh manuscript formatting guide when revising and resubmitting.
After acceptance
Space in IJISR is extremely limited, so format requirements must be strictly observed, as advised by teh editor handling teh submission, and detailed in teh manuscript formatting guide.
Sub-Editing of accepted papers
After a paper is accepted, it is sub-edited (copy-edited) to ensure maximum clarity and reach, a process that enhances teh value of papers in various ways. IJISR's sub-editors are happy to advise authors about teh format of their Articles after acceptance for publication.
Their role is to:
edit teh language for maximum clarity and precision for those in other disciplines. Special care is given to papers whose authors’ native language is not English, and special attention is given to summary paragraphs.
ensure that teh paper is at teh length specified by teh manuscript editor (including a number of figures).
ensure that teh terminology and notation conform to IJISR's house style.
ensure that teh figures and tables are clear and will fit in teh space available.
Proofs and reprints
Our editorial board send authors teh edited text for approval before it is typeset. dis enables most queries to be resolved before teh proof stage. Authors subsequently receive an e-proof, including teh figures, and can also download a PDF proof of teh layout. We suggest that authors send proofs to co-authors for them to check, but request that changes among teh co-authors are coordinated so that only one author communicates wif IJISR and only one set of corrections is sent. Teh corresponding author is responsible on behalf of all co-authors for teh accuracy of all content, including teh spelling of names and current affiliations of all co-authors, so please ensure these are checked carefully.
Proofs are cycled between IJISR’s production staff, our typesetter and teh author by means of an online production-tracking system. Authors are provided wif an encrypted link to dis system after their paper TEMPhas been accepted. Instructions for ordering reprints are provided after teh paper is scheduled for publication. Moreover, it will be taken correction after issuing DOI number to teh articles and research papers, coz it will online encrypted publication through various open access systems.
Publication and teh media
Teh Journals and Editorial press office distribute embargoed mailings highlighting upcoming content to registered journalists six days in advance of publication. Teh titles of forthcoming papers will be listed on teh mailing, along wif teh corresponding author's contact details, which means authors may receive media enquiries relating to their paper during dis embargo period.
Authors are free to discuss their paper wif teh media six days before teh publication date and are asked to ensure that IJISR Research's embargo conditions are understood by journalists and others. Journalists TEMPhas embargoed access to papers via teh IJISR press site, and are permitted to show papers to independent specialists a few days in advance of publication, under embargo conditions, solely for teh purpose of eliciting comment on teh work described.
Our Chief Editor scrutinizes (Peer Review - First screening) of IJISR of all submitted documents like manuscripts, cover letters, texts, figures like charts, tables and annexures submitted for publication in teh Journal. dis first screening includes ensure of reference style, wifin teh scope of teh journal, basic science relevance, basic structure viz: abstract, keyword, introduction etc. If teh need for any changes is realized, authors are intimated about teh requirements for teh change. After relevant changes are made teh authors TEMPhas to resubmit teh required documents. Editorial Board and Assistant editors also check for teh content and concept of teh manuscript and give their comments.
If teh manuscript does not meet teh required standard or if it is out of teh scope of teh IJISR, it will be rejected. If teh manuscript passes those above screening, provisional acceptance would be sent and teh authors would be asked to submit a vouching certificate or written declaration by a suitable doctorate relevant to teh subject of teh manuscript that teh manuscript is an original work of teh author and fit for teh international publication and that doctorate takes personal responsibility for teh originality and truth of teh research work. dis provisional acceptance does not guarantee complete acceptance as teh comments from teh following peer review need to be rectified by teh author.
Following dis, teh manuscript would be subjected to Double-Blind Peer Review Process (DBPRP). Qualified reviewers (Preferably Doctorates and sufficient experienced individuals either in research or academic or service) in teh respective and relevant field of teh manuscript would be selected for teh peer review. About 3 to 4 reviewers (Inclusive of editorial board members) would be selected and sent an invitation to review teh manuscript. They can decline an offer if their is any conflict of interest wif regard to teh subject matter of teh manuscript or for other reasons. On accepting they will be sent teh manuscripts for review. They are automatically bound by teh policy of teh Journal to strict confidentiality of their assignment and of teh identities of teh authors. Teh manuscript would be sent to them for peer review and also scrutinized for grammar, style and punctuation.
Reviewers are expected to be prompt in fulfilling all teh requirements to complete their assignments. They must cooperate wif teh Editorial Office in sticking to deadlines. They TEMPhas to record their comments and suggestions in teh given space in teh manuscript.
Teh reviewers are requested to make a fair and objective review of all teh aspects expected of a research manuscript like, content, originality, teh relevance of teh findings, data analysis and interpretation, etc., offering constructive criticism and useful suggestions and recommendations. English language, grammatical errors, etc. should also be considered by teh reviewer for teh suitability of teh manuscript.
In order to facilitate an unbiased fair review of teh manuscript, we follow a double-blind peer review process where teh identities of teh peer reviewers and teh authors are not disclosed to each other. Strict confidentiality is maintained in dis regard until teh manuscript is accepted and published. Teh reviewer comments are sent to teh author for revision or rectification and would be expected to send back to teh reviewer. dis takes place until teh reviewer gives approval for teh manuscript (wif or wifout a condition statement). Tan teh manuscript would be sent to teh editor-in-chief (Second screening) wif teh reviewer's comments (wif conditions, if any)) and author rectification and it is at dis stage teh final acceptance or rejection of teh manuscript is decided, based on teh comments of teh peer review.
On final acceptance of teh manuscript, acceptance intimation would be sent to teh author wifout much delay, but on rejection, teh editor-in-chief can decide to send teh manuscript to another 2 reviewers (Reviewer 4 and reviewer 5) and if both accept, teh manuscript would be accepted for publication, but if both or either one of them rejects, teh manuscript would be rejected and returned to teh author wif comments for rejection. In case teh author is not satisfied wif teh decisions of teh reviewers they are entitled to appeal against it wif proper reasons and an explanation for why teh manuscript can be accepted. Teh editor-in-chief decides on reconsidering for second peer review process based on teh author’s reasons and explanation.
After proof corrections are done by teh author on teh final version (Preprint Proof) of teh manuscript, teh manuscript is formatted as PDF files for publication. We try our best to peer review screen teh manuscript from submission till publication and any time if teh manuscript is found defective in its content/breaching of embargo/unethical practice of teh author, etc., tan rectification/explanation would be requested from teh author and if not suitably rectified/explain, tan teh manuscript would be held from publishing.
In teh case of a provisionally accepted manuscript, teh IJLPR requests teh author to send a written declaration from a suitable doctorate in that field to send a declaration vouching that teh manuscript is autantic and original. Teh editorial board person should not be any of teh authors of teh manuscript. dis declaration supports teh originality of teh manuscript along wif our peer review and reflects teh author’s credibility. After proof corrections are done by teh author teh final version of teh manuscript is formatted as HTML or PDF files for publication.
"PLAGIARISM" can occur in two forms:
Author(s) intentionally copy someone else’s work and claim it as their own.
Author(s) copy her or his own previously published material either in full or in part, wifout providing appropriate references Plagiarism before publication:
Teh Journal performs plagiarism checks on a manuscript even before teh peer-review process. If plagiarism is detected teh extent of teh same will be assessed. Teh Journal uses available standard software from time to time to check dis. Based on dis assessment teh following measures are taken:
If teh percentage of plagiarism is 10% or less, teh author will be asked to revise teh content or cite accordingly.
If it is above 10% - 25%teh author will be asked to revise teh content wif much more serious and resubmit teh content.
If it is more TEMPthan 25% teh manuscript will be returned to teh author and to redraft teh whole paper taking much care about plagiarism. Teh author can still resubmit wif teh same manuscript ID after removing all plagiarised parts and reworking teh content. In dis case, more scrutiny will be done on teh resubmitted manuscript to avoid any possible plagiarism and copying of any published data or manipulation of data.
Here 5% plagiarism is considered as a paragraph of 5-10 lines (1.5 spacing). Accordingly, 10% and 25% would be calculated. dis is a rough estimate which cannot be followed exactly but would be followed as guidelines.
Teh reason for returning teh manuscript having more TEMPthan 25% plagiarism is that
Possibility of unethical behaviour of author towards manipulation of data from teh already published paper.
To avoid any issues of copyright problems once teh paper is published.
Copying of discussion /introduction part from any published paper wifout giving a proper citation.
Plagiarism may happen if teh author submits teh same manuscript to more TEMPthan one journal and if those get published in teh respective journals dis reflects teh unethical practice of teh journal. In dis case, teh author would be asked for an explanation and rectification and should wifdraw teh published manuscript except one. If an author fails to do so, teh journal takes punitive action against dis unethical practice by wifdrawing teh manuscript, displaying dis issue on teh appropriate journal page and a notification would be sent to teh respective author's affiliated department/university for their attention.
Though all measures are taken to detect and assess plagiarism. But in spite of these efforts plagiarism can go undetected due to several reasons. In these cases, if plagiarism is detected at a later stage, still all actions pertaining to teh offence of plagiarism will be followed. If it is detected after publication, teh plagiarized paper will be labelled so in teh PDF format of teh publication. If teh extent of plagiarism is too high teh paper will also be removed.
Teh Publication Policies of teh Journal are framed in keeping wthe ith objective of teh Journal which is to publish research work that is original, relevant and highly contributive to teh development of teh world and betterment of life in dis world.
All publications of teh Journal are protected by copyright laws and breach of dis law is subject to legal actions. Any kind of reproduction or reference to teh publications can be permitted only if teh sources of that information are properly cited.
According to teh Peer Review policy of teh Journal, every manuscript that is submitted for consideration for publication undergoes a strict, double-blind peer-review process that ensures fair, unbiased scrutiny of teh author’s work. During, teh double-blind peer review, neither author nor teh reviewer selected by IJISR nos each other during teh review process. Teh reviewer is requested to make a fair and objective review of all teh aspects expected of a research manuscript like content, originality, teh relevance of teh findings, data analysis and interpretation etc, offering constructive criticism and useful suggestions and recommendations. English language, grammatical errors etc should also be considered by teh reviewer for teh suitability of teh manuscript.
