Educational Facilities: History
Please note this is an old version of this entry, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Educational facilities are the physical and built environments, utilities, and material infrastructure that support the delivery of teaching and learning in educational settings [1][2][3][4]. The term includes school buildings, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sanitation and hygiene facilities, electricity, water supply, ICT-related spaces, accessibility features, and safety-related infrastructure required for educational operation [1][2]. Educational facilities are defined not only by physical presence but also by adequacy, functionality, maintenance, and usability for learners and staff [2][3][4]. In education planning and policy, educational facilities refer to the infrastructure conditions that enable instructional processes, student participation, and institutional continuity, and are commonly measured through standards-based indicators of availability and quality rather than through curriculum or pedagogy outcomes themselves [1][2][3][4].
