Submit an Entry Read an Entry

Users can earn points by submitting new entries, commenting on other users’ entries, and gaining likes. There are more than 40,000 entries on Encyclopedia. These entries are created by prominent scholars to facilitate academic researches and interactions.

To celebrate our 5th anniversary, during the activity, double points will be granted to users who submit new entries, comment on other users’ entries, and gain likes. In addition, participating users will share a total of 600 CHF bonus.

Rewards:

The top three users with the highest points during the activity will receive 300 CHF, 200 CHF and 100 CHF respectively. For users with the same points, their rankings will be based on the time when they acquired those points respectively. An earlier time means a higher ranking.

Tips:

Users can gain likes by sharing the entries with friends.

Participation:

You can obtain points based on the following rules:

Submitting an entry grants 30 points without upper limit;
Commenting on other users’ entries grants 10 points for each entry, up to 3 times a day;
Gaining likes from other users grants 2 points for each entry, up to 5 times a day.

Requirements:

Title: No longer than 8 words.

Description: A brief overview of the entry.

Content: The main body of an entry with more than one section.

Keywords: 3 to 10 keywords.

Length: No less than 1000 words in length (500 in biography).

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by an association of cardiovascular and diabetes mellitus type 2 risk factors. Although the definition of MetS slightly differs depending on the society that described it, its central diagnostic criteria include impaired fasting glucose, low HDL-cholesterol, elevated triglycerides levels and high blood pressure. Insulin resistance (IR) is believed to be the main cause of MetS and is connected to the level of visceral or intra-abdominal adipose tissue, which could be assessed either by calculating body mass index or by measuring waist circumference. Studies revealed that IR may also be present in non-obese patients, and considered visceral adiposity to be the main effector of MetS’ pathology. Visceral adiposity is strongly linked with hepatic fatty infiltration also known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), therefore, the level of fatty acids in the hepatic parenchyma is indirectly linked with MetS, being both a cause and a consequence of this syndrome.

Possibilities for Blockchain-Enabled Guarantees of Origin

Guarantees of Origin (GOs) are widely used as insurances for the renewability of electricity supplies and proofs of compliance to renewable standards; however, they suffer from structural problems. Their transactional history cannot distinguish between those traded among market actors and the ones that come directly from power plants, giving rise to transparency issues. Certificate trading dissuades producers from investing in an increase in renewable capacity resulting in lack of additionality while complex frameworks and administrative structures emerge to keep track of the vast network of GOs. These issues can be resolved through the introduction of blockchain networks which can provide transparency and help incentivise renewable investment while increasing automation and process simplification.
