Measuring Short Food Supply Chain Sustainability
Short food supply chains (SFSCs) are one of the most direct approaches to more directly connecting consumers with producers. The scaling-up of SFSCs is often challenged by critical issues which can be overcome with identification of the most sustainable, replicable schemes.

Swine Breeding in the Villages of Vâlcea County
Food supply has been a constant source of concern for mankind. In the present context, with food security a priority of European and national policies, an analysis of pig farming in a representative NUTS2 administrative level of Romania that emphasizes the proportion of households raising at least one pig and the main factors influencing farmers to adopt or give up swine breeding could allow a much clearer understanding of this phenomenon that lies at the border between cultural tradition and socio-economic necessity.

AI Technology in Cultivated Land Protection
Application and research of artificial intelligence (AI) in intelligent agricultural systems can provide valuable insights for cultivated land management. While the integration of AI with cultivated land protection holds immense potential, challenges such as data privacy concerns, the need for extensive databases, and the adoption of AI by farmers, particularly in developing regions, must be addressed.

Climate Justice Implications of Banning Air-Freighted Fresh Produce
Airfreight transport refers to the shipment of goods by air from one location to another and is often perceived as a contributor to global carbon emissions. The environmental impacts associated with airfreight are of notable and genuine concern. Such concerns have often led to calls for measures to ban or limit air freight as a mode of transportation for goods. Whilst the majority of these calls are perceived to be well placed, it is nevertheless essential to acknowledge the climate justice implications associated with such measures, particularly in the context of perishable products like fresh produce.

Indirect Land Use Change Risk Certification for Biofuels
Indirect land use change (ILUC) is considered a significant challenge, resulting from an increasing demand for biomass and bioenergy. On a political level sustainability certification of biomass-derived products is discussed as one potential instrument to manage the risk of ILUC. However, extending existing schemes towards a credible and reliable certification approach to account for ILUC-risks is still an open challenge. To develop such a certification instrument, so-called “additionality practices” are gaining relevance. Such practices include measures that an individual producer can adopt to provide an amount of biomass in addition to the business-as-usual feedstock production. In preparation of an integrated assessment framework for low ILUC-risk certification, a gap analysis is presented that examines whether trade-offs that may arise from the use of such additionality practices are considered already in existing sustainability certification schemes for biofuels.

The internet provides a convenient means of disseminating information, promoting access to local foods, and assuring food access during public health emergencies. Purchasing food online can be further enhanced through standardized management of online communities.

Similarities and Differences between Precision Agriculture and Digitalisation
The fourth industrial revolution affects all sectors of the economy, including agriculture. This has led to increasing agricultural digitalisation (which is also called agriculture 4.0 or A 4.0) in farms. According to Szalavetz, agricultural digitalisation refers to “the infusion of digital technologies in and the consequent transformation of agricultural pre-production, production, production-related support, and post-production activities.”
